Moving communities to more sustainable practices often leads to either a lowering of carbon emissions or the increased absorption of carbon from the atmosphere.  In an increasing number of contexts where DevDesign works, both of these outcomes can be monetized to generate revenue for the community through international carbon markets.  DevDesign is one of a very few organizations operating in the development sector with the expertise to make this community-owned commodity market-ready.  Through deliberate program design this new revenue source strengthens the development goals that can be achieved through the adoption of the sustainable practices that generate the credits, as well as the capital, necessary to address other community priorities. Our framework for carbon project development emphasizes the flow of benefit back to the community, rather than an export of benefit to other market players.

When working with business, our focus is on ensuring that any investment made to reduce an organization's carbon footprint is structured in a way to capture verifiable emissions reductions. This can then be applied in either a regulatory or voluntary scenario. Additionally, we help design projects to maximize social and environmental co-benefits to help capture the total available benefit from the investment.
